Self-giving God, you understand human suffering because you were there in Jesus when he hung on the cross; you gave him strength to go on loving even in his pain; you brought him through his suffering to new life beyond the grave. He appeared to his disciples, the same yet different. Give us the faith to know you are with us in our pain, to deal creatively with our struggles and to find that through them, we come to new life. As we move through our times of suffering, may we emerge as new people, stronger and more loving than before. Amen.
